  • Chinese Religions
    Yes, the Chinese goverment is atheist; it's communist and part of communist theology is athiest, therefore it's athiest. However, in attempts to improve relations with other countries and minorities living within China, the government allows some religious services and practices. You will still see the people of China performing pilgramages to burn incense, fortune-telling, burning fake paper money. You will also find that temples and monastaries which were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution being restored.
  • Christianity
    The Chinese goverment is not exactly pro-Christianity. However, it doesn't seem to be completely anti-Christianity either. Under the Chinese constitution, freedom of religion is guaranteed.   However--you know there has to be a "but" in there somewhere--it also states that "religious bodies and religous affairs not be subject to any foreign domination." This means that Christianity is put under goverment control. This is perhaps harderst on the Catholic people of China; if there are "not to be subject to any foreign domination," they are not to be "dominated" by the Pope--officially they must disown the Pope as leader.
  • Islam
    About 14 million people in China are of the Islamic faith. You will find many Chinese Muslims living in the northwest provinces of China--especially in the Xinjiang autonomous region.
